Creating a Mobile Payments App for Parking Structures
Skidata is one of the largest parking facility providers in the world. During my time with Kuapay, we aimed to use our proprietary payments technology to partner with them and help eliminate the problem of frequently misplaced parking garage tickets, reduce the amount time people spent managing tickets, and make it easier to locate parking structures.
Project Goals
Pay for parking with your smartphone.
Locate available parking structures or lots.
Eventually, with use of scanners in structures, eliminate need for tickets.
Open & Go
We wanted to make it easy for users to use the app, so we made it one screen which opened right away to one of two options, depending on where a user was in the flow:
Not parked, which helped a user locate the nearest parking structure with an action to scan their ticket after entry, or—
Parked, which allowed a user to view where and for how long he/she had been parked and gave the option to pay (no need to use the machines anymore!).
Make it Automatic
Eventually, we believed the best experience would be the elimination of tickets altogether. This way, a car's license plate would be registered through the app and simply scanned upon and entry and exit. A customer could still use the app to find a parking structure, keep track of how long and where they parked, and log receipts.
